10 Ways to Achieve the Life You Deserve

Updated: Mar 20

You've been knocked down, you're hurting and you just want to give up.

1, 2, 3…

You open your eyes but everything is blurry; your head is spinning, and your eyes are burning…

4, 5, 6…

You’re down but you are not out; everyone is watching, they want you to give up because if it was them they would not have the COURAGE and the STRENGTH TO STAND BACK UP...

7, 8, 9…

Do you hear that?

Your heart is still beating, it’s still working. You are still ALIVE, stand up! The pain you’re feeling, the struggle, the fear is all temporary; it is not forever. So, open your eyes and RISE. Only you can push yourself to be the best version of YOURSELF.

Be your critique, your only critique and CHALLENGE yourself. You can do this!

10 is not acceptable.

Adversity does not win today.

How many people give up every single day? How many people quit on themselves? That’s a statistic that can’t be googled and Google knows everything!

If you want to succeed you must learn to accept setback as an opportunity to try again. You are a warrior and warriors never quit.

The Mindset of a Fearful Warrior

At the beginning of my junior year, I told myself that I was going to break the dead-lift record for my weight. The record was 550 pounds and my current weight at the time was 168. I knew I could do it. I even voiced it because that was who I was. We went through our training program week in and week out. I kept my goal in mind every day.

We finished our first 10 weeks and I was ready to go beast mode. I did my warm-ups and got myself pumped up. My friends were all pumped up too, “You got this man!" I stepped into the bar, wrapped my hands, spread my chest and pulled. It didn’t budge.

I got back into form and tried again.

Nothing.

I was so angry with myself, embarrassed and sad. I couldn’t believe that I wasn’t able to lift it, but I wasn’t going to stop. The year went on and I kept putting in that work during strength class and after school. Pushing myself physically and mentally. I changed the way I ate and got as close as possible to the next weight class. I put together a plan outside of just lifting. I researched how to get stronger. Another 10 weeks went by and once again I was ready for this. I was going to do this RIGHT NOW! I had put in the work and I knew that this was going to be my moment! I wasn’t just going to break it; I was going to shatter it.

I had them put on 600.

Done.

Moved up to 620.

Done.

Moved up to 635.

Done.

I shattered it at 650 pounds!

That mindset has always been a part of me. I’ve never been fearful of putting in work or the possibility of failure; I’ve always been afraid not to try. I took that mindset with me everywhere I went and executed it in everything I did.

Except, I never put that mindset into my dreams and my goals.

I wasted a lot of time on meaningless relationships, jobs, and activities. When I say I wasted time, I don’t mean a few minutes or a few hours. I mean LIFE—time. I was after something so amazing and inspiring. I had a vision of doing something so great that I could change the world; I would make a difference. Somewhere along the way, I lost that dream. Well not lost so to speak, but I pushed it aside. I shoved it to the corner of my mind, covered it with a sheet and then said, “I’ll be back for you.” How many other people have done that?

I never went back because I had to survive. We all do. We go out, we find jobs and we go to work. We do that to pay our bills, take care of our families and to enjoy life. Meanwhile, your dream is in the corner collecting dust, starving for your attention; for some of that work you’ve been giving to everyone else. Life then happens and takes you on a roller-coaster of a ride. The next thing you know years have gone by; you’re renting a home, you’re making a car payment, you’re buying groceries and paying bills. You’re in this routine of trying to survive and make a life that you forget where you wanted to go. You’ve forgotten the dream that was going to change your life. It is now buried in dust, ash, and cobwebs but it’s still there. You’ve worked hard everywhere you’ve been and for everyone else. You gave your sweat, blood, and tears at your jobs. For what? To give it all away and to do it all over again; it’s an endless cycle. Is that really what you want to be doing or do you want to change YOUR world and make a difference?

Aspire to conquer the world. Go back in that room, dust off that dream and put in the work!

Investing in your dream is investing in yourself. You cannot change where you have been, but you can always control where you are going.

People tend to forget that they have one life. How often do you hear that? How often do you REALLY hear that? I’m not saying letting it come in one ear and going out the other. How often do you digest what you are hearing and realize that at any moment your life can end?

Today could be your last day, have you made sure to work on yourself? Are you happy where you are in your life at this very moment? Oscar Wilde said, “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”

Meaning, so many people are going through the motions and wonder why their lives are where they are. Life can be hard; it can be full of pain and tragedy but for anything to change you need to keep pushing forward. Stop accepting the things that you don’t want to accept, stop taking that “hard to swallow the pill” and stop thinking that you can’t do it. You can do anything that you want to do, you must believe it and you need to work your ass off.

I have failed so many times in so many aspects of life, but I never gave up. I never will give up. I keep pushing forward and I welcome adversity. Anything that challenges you is going to change you and make you that much stronger!

You have failed in the past but that does not define you. Whatever those failures may have been, whatever struggles you are facing you can defeat them. You and ONLY you can push yourself.

No one in this world is as hard on me as I am on myself. I choose to motivate, encourage and set my goals high. When I don’t reach them, I put together a different plan. That didn’t work, what else can I try? Those who choose NOT to fail are the ones who fail. I’ll admit that it can be terrifying at the thought of failing and EVERYONE watching but where are they? They’re on the sidelines looking in.

You are the warrior of your story.

Make it happen.

10 Ways to Take Control of Your Life and Conquer Your Dreams

1. When challenges arise, stand tall and charge!

The storm is rolling towards you; it’s nasty, it’s dark and its whipping debris all over. That debris could be finances, pain, relationship issues, death of a loved one or whatever life feels like throwing at you. What do you do? Curl up and wait for it to pass?

WRONG.

There is only one way to go and it's through that storm. Grit your teeth, lean forward and charge right into that storm until you come out the other side.

2. Plan!

Map out how you are going to get from here to there. Wherever there is you can get there so stop making excuses and start making plans!

3. When you fail, feel it, accept it, and try again!

Failure is a part of life but those who choose to keep trying are the ones who find success!

4. Change your mindset!

You need to change the way you think and that can mean a few things. It could mean changing the music you listen to, the people you hang around with or what you watch on television. What you feed your mind is what you think of yourself. The subconscious is a powerful thing. Fuel your mind with success, positive thoughts, and your goals!

5. Take notes!

When you hear, feel or think of something that inspires you to write that down! There is a reason why it instigated an emotional response within you and you need to figure out why!

6. Equip yourself to defeat anything that comes your way!

Empower yourself with positive affirmations and knowledge. If you get the chance to learn something valuable, embrace it. If you don’t get those opportunities, then go out and make those opportunities. Stop wasting your hard-earned money on useless things and invest it in yourself, your dreams and your goals. Take a class of any kind, a writing class or even a pottery class. Whatever is going to make you better than your current self, feed your mind and your soul, do that! Bettering yourself is preparing you to overcome whatever challenge comes your way!

7. Talk to yourself!

Motivate yourself! Be your biggest critique and your biggest fan! Silence the outside noise, especially the ones who offer no valuable conversation. That is your right, this is your life and your dream!

8. Work, work, work!

The odds may be against you, that person over there has parents that help him get to the top. Guess what? You have yourself and if you’re willing to be the hardest worker in the room, then nothing and no one can stop you from getting to where you want to be! Be relentless, be an overachiever and work with the thought of your dream in the FRONT of your mind!

9. Believe.

Believing can be difficult when you look at it from the bottom to the top. This tower is so tall, can I climb it?

The answer is yes!

Instead of believing that it is impossible, start believing that it is possible. Don’t set your limits at the top, set them at the bottom. What I mean by that is everyone sets their limits for what they are going to do and that’s it. They will not do more than what is asked of them. They are the majority. Set your limits and tell yourself, “I’m not going below that line!” With every inch you go up that tower, take that limit with you and stand on top it!

Once you do this you will believe more and more!

10. Be the minority and be a leader!

Be the difference maker, be the one who is willing to chase their dreams! Work harder than everyone day in and day out; motivate others to do the same. Be kind and be positive. This world already has enough hate and negativity. Go against the grain and be different!

Take people with you. Show them there is more to life than where they are. The world is full of possibilities and opportunities you just must reach for them!

This is Your Challenge, Your Life: Make It Happen

I’m challenging you to follow your dreams and to reach your goals. Stop making excuses why you can’t because you can! I believe in humanity and I understand that life can be so damn hard that it makes you want to quit, but you can’t give up. Maybe, you’re stuck in a motionless direction but only you can change that. Every morning that you wake up and you’re getting ready for work I want you to ask yourself a couple of things.

“What was my dream? What did I want to do?”

Then turn around and ask yourself, “What stopped me?”

Yourself.

We do it to ourselves. Things happen to us or around us and we stop believing that we could reach the top. It’s time to change YOUR world and help others to change theirs!

You can do this! We can do this!

Be the movement!
